Ganley has correctly been lambasted for his claims to be a better Christian than other candidates and to have a higher moral standing while using a racist message to get marginal voters in Ireland. Fine Gael are a party on the right of Irish politics and are determined that Ganley's far right message will not work in Ireland.

NORTH-WEST RACE: LIBERTAS LEADER Declan Ganley has been accused by his Fine Gael opponent in the North-West constituency Senator Joe O’Reilly of “disgraceful” behaviour in claiming that his party was the only one concerned with fundamental moral issues.

Mr O’Reilly said that Fine Gael had always been committed to policies that respected human life, despite the claims of Mr Ganley, who is running in the same constituency.

“Mr Ganley talks about euthanasia and abortion like he is the only person who holds any moral ground on these issues, when in fact Fine Gael hold an impeccably high moral ground on all issues,” said Mr O’Reilly.

He added that Fine Gael has its roots in Christian democracy and its policies and beliefs reflected the ethos of that political movement which was pro-life in the deepest sense.

“Fine Gael in Europe is aligned to the European People’s Party (EPP) or the Christian Democrats, who are known for their Christian values and beliefs,” he said.

A Fine Gael spokesman said that the party’s position was that the dignity of the human being was central. “We regard the human being as the subject, not the object, of history. This brings us to respect human life in all its forms and at all stages, to respect human dignity in medical and genetic advancements.”

Mr O’Reilly said he wanted to assure people who might be inclined to vote for Libertas that Mr Ganley was not the only candidate in the North-West who was voicing Christian opinions.

“How dare he claim to be the only candidate in the North-West constituency with any high moral grounding; this is utterly disgraceful. He has no God-given right to declare a monopoly of integrity.”

Mr O’Reilly added that he had been involved directly with the EPP through his membership of the Council of Europe and had been very impressed with the way the organisation operated with Christian values at its core.

“One of Mr Ganley’s candidates in the Netherlands is avowedly pro-abortion, while he has tried to create the impression that he is the only candidate in the North-West constituency who is anti-abortion. That says a lot about his tactics,” said Mr O’Reilly.

He added that Mr Ganley was also trying to fool people into the belief that he was the only candidate committed to probity with regard to expenses in the EU when in fact Fine Gael and the EPP had been involved in pressing for reform of the system both at home and in Brussels.

“Another indication of the double standards being pursued by Mr Ganley is that while he is the alleged leader of a pan-European party, his candidates in Ireland East and Dublin are now beating the racist drum. That is also disgraceful,” he said.

Candidates from other party immediately criticized Libertas, noting that in the event of the introduction of such rules (Libertas's Blue Card scheme), tens of thousands of Irish living and working in other EU countries would have to return home.

Libertas accused of being 'fascist' over migrant plan

IMMIGRATION ROW: LIBERTAS HAS been accused of being “fascist” and of playing the “immigration card” with its plans to impose a two-year limit on migration into Ireland from other European states and a ban on immigrants claiming benefits here.

The party’s Dublin candidate, Caroline Simons, said yesterday that the immigration issue was the “elephant in the room” in the European election campaign.

She said that Libertas was calling for the adoption of a “blue card” throughout the European Union that would allow a citizen of the EU to live in another member state for up to two years as a guest worker as long as they were not a burden on the receiving state.

“This would mean that guest workers from EU member states would no longer be entitled to dole, rent subsidy, or any other state handout. Health and other social benefits would remain a matter for the member state from which the citizen originated,” she said. She said that migrants who require access to schools or other essential social services could apply for them on the same basis as now. If an immigrant lost their job, they would no longer be entitled to remain in the State once the blue card expired. Those in employment could apply for a new blue card after two years.

Describing the approach as one of “common sense”, she said Libertas believed in regulated economic migration in the 27 member states. However, she said the burden placed on Ireland and other EU states was unfair.

She claimed 29,000 new PPS numbers had been issued in Ireland this year to EU nationals when there were 400,000 unemployed people in Ireland.

“The Libertas plan would ensure that these people would come here only to work, study, or explore Ireland. We must reduce the burden to Ireland of caring for inhabitants of other member states and this plan is an equitable and fair way of doing it,” she said.

Her comments followed similar comments on Thursday by Libertas East candidate Raymond O’Malley, who said the time had come to stop the tide of workers coming from accession states.

In relation to asylum seekers from outside the EU, she said that if the Dublin Convention was enforced, Ireland would have fewer asylum seekers. Under the convention, an asylum seeker must be processed in the first State at which they arrive. She said there “was no direct flight from Lagos to Dublin”.

Labour’s Dublin MEP Proinsias de Rossa said he expected nothing else from Libertas which he accused of being a “fascist party”. He said: “They are aligned with all the far-right parties across Europe. It is divisive politics that these parties are involved in. If this system was implemented, tens of thousands of Irish people living and working across the EU would have to be sent home.

Fianna Fáil’s candidate in East Thomas Byrne said the policy was ludicrous. “Immigration is a complex issue and to reduce it to an electoral soundbite is dangerous,” he told Today FM.

Ganley on 9% in Irish Times poll

Declan Ganley is on 9% according to a poll that will be published in tomorrow's Irish Times. This will not be enough to get a seat in the North West constituency. Neither of the other two Libertas candidate the racists Raymond O'Malley and the anti abortion candidate Caroline Simons are not in the running in Dublin at only 1% and the East constituency.

Despite spending millions of Euros Libertas ahve failed to convince Irish voters to accept their far right agenda. Declan Ganley has said he will not pursue a campaign against the second Lisbon referendum if he fails to get elected.

A Libertas election candidate was last night accused of "playing the race card" after claiming Ireland's borders should be closed to stop any future influx of foreign nationals.

Raymond O'Malley, who is running in the European elections in the East constituency, said the



borders should be closed to the 10 accession states as long as Ireland's high unemployment rate persists.

The Libertas candidate claimed over 29,000 PPS numbers were handed out to foreign nationals since January of this year.

"I think we've got to stop it. I think we have to look after our own people," Mr O'Malley said.

Asked if "barriers" should be put up, Mr O'Malley said: "As long as we've this rate of unemployment, yes."

Given the current economic difficulties and the rising unemployment rates, no additional foreign nationals should be given residency, he argued. However, those already resident in Ireland should be allowed remain.

"They're here. They're very welcome and they'll have to stay," he told 'The Last Word' with Matt Cooper on Today FM.

"There's been a funnel effect because Ireland was only one of three EU countries that allowed the accession states to have free access to our labour market."

Last night, his constituency rival, Fine Gael senator John Paul Phelan, accused Mr O'Malley of "playing the race card".

"I was shocked at his outrageous statement. This is fantasy economics by Libertas. To try and blame foreign nationals for our economic problems is completely missing the point," he said.

Defending his remarks last night, Mr O'Malley said that with 400,000 Irish people out of work, it is no longer "sound policy" to issue PPS numbers to foreign nationals.

"Our immigration policy is hurting the domestic economy, placing vulnerable people -- especially asylum seekers -- at risk, and allowing our EU partners to ignore their legal obligations," he told the Irish Independent.

When we think of Malta we may think of Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor in The Maltese Falcon. The Maltese Falcon we are presented with today is more reminiscent of the German Eagle of the Third Reich. In fact the Irish Times left out one word in their description of Azzjoni Nazzjonal.

They are a far right party.

The Azzoni Nazzonal or National Action's launch was reported by Malta Today under the headline "Dismal launch for Josie’s far-right party". The party was launched with invectives which were were "unambiguously anti-foreign, staunchly pro-life and pro-family, calling for greater public order, and appealing to “real Maltese” to come forward."

As well as supporting hunting and tradition one leader said "“My personal opinion is that the values of this new party should be based on the natural order and the Catholic order,”"


So Ganley has picked off the deputy leader of this group of far right nationalist and is standing her as a Libertas candidate in Malta. This adds one more xenophobic, racist extreme right winger to Ganley's collection of Europe's political scum.

To celebrate his latest accusistion Ganley in waht is becoming his typical electioneering style lied about the Maltese Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi stating that he had signed the Lisbon Treaty without reading it.
"Mr Gonzi, however, dismissed the Libertas founder’s claims as “completely untrue” and “totally absurd”, according to reports in the Maltese media"

When asked whether Libertas was right-wing, Mr Ganley said it could not be categorised into right or left, and that its candidates came from diverse backgrounds.

"We are very moderate, centrist and pro-democracy," he said.

Libertas had headed the campaign against the Lisbon Treaty, but it still labels itself as a pro-European party.

"If Brussels can ignore the democratic voice of France, the Netherlands and Ireland, how much influence can Malta have?" Mr Ganley argued, in a reference to the referendums that were won by the 'no' camp.

Ms Gauci explained that in her experience as a public officer working with the Finance Ministry, she had witnessed "sad" things which she could not disclose.

She said the scourge of illegal immigration had become a national crisis, and that Malta needed to put its foot down with the EU. However, she stopped short of giving any concrete proposals. Times of Malta

Maltese politicians should be asking how much Gauci cost Ganley. Remember Sweden? The 1 mil euro offer from Libertas to Junilistan. They should also be ready to enforce electoral laws which Ganleys appears to be completely flaunting in Ireland where he has still failed to account for the funding for his Lisbon campaign.

Mary Gauci, former deputy leader of far-right political party Azzjoni Nazzjonali, has been announced leader of Libertas.eu Malta: the local branch of a newly formed pan-European party founded by Irish multi-millionaire Declan Ganley, by whose presence and eloquence Gauci was quickly upstaged at yesterday’s launch event.
A state-registered nurse by profession, Gauci will be contesting the 6 June European Parliament elections under the Libertas ticket. Ganley did not exclude the possibility of enrolling a second Maltese candidate on the new party’s list, but no there was no mention of names of other prospective candidates.
“The setting up of Libertas marks a historic moment,” Gauci said in her opening speech. “Our strength lies in that we are a pan-European party, across the 27 member states. The EU should be more democratic, and citizens of member states should remain citizens.”
Libertas was purposely set up to contest EP elections, with its primary aim being to reform European institutions so that more attention is given to individual member states, thus facilitating the pooling of sovereignty.
The political party finds its roots as a successful lobby group created to advocate a “No” vote against the Treaty of Lisbon referendum, held in Ireland last June.
Reportedly, the retired MEP Jens-Peter Bonde, a well-known Eurosceptic, was one of the main architects behind the lobby group’s upgrade to a European political party.
Among the rumoured MEP candidates running for Libertas abroad, one finds the French aristocrats Philippe de Villiers and Paul-Marie Couteaux – both associated with the Mouvement Pour la France, a far-right Eurosceptic political group advocating anti-Islamism.
But Ganley stressed that Libertas is neither a Eurosceptic party nor a far-right one. “We are pro-European and happy with the pooling of sovereignty. But European leaders have to be accountable,” he said. ”When all our candidates are announced, you will be surprised at the diversity of backgrounds in our list,” he said.
“There has been an attempt by people in Brussels to label us as Communists first, and then of having American interests, but both seemed to fail,” Ganley said in his reply to our questions.
The Irish entrepreneur, who is said to be personally worth around €300 million, is the chairman of a defence contracting company specialising in military telecommunications. It appears that a number of contracts he has with the Pentagon amount to at least $200 million.
“The public is not aware that the majority of laws are initiated in Brussels by unelected EU officials. Your parliament, along with many others, did not hold a debate before ratifying the Lisbon agenda. The signatories did not even read it. Your president will represent you as a European and will not ask you for a vote. We’ve got a problem and we need to fix it.”
Ganley said that if Malta has five seats at its disposal, across the EU Libertas will have many more.
“You need to elect a member in a party whose voice can be heard,” he said before describing other political blocs in the European parliament as “different parties sharing a photocopier and a coffee machine”.
“As we say in Ireland, ‘horses for courses’... and the Libertas horse is built for the European course,” he added. “We are going to be a voice they can’t ignore. We are not even there yet and they already hate us, and the reason for this is because they know that we are the agents of change and that we will be effective, and they’re terrified of this.”

Does Libertas really believe what its new right wing friends believe, asks Dave Uwakwe, or is it just desperate for allies?

The recent controversy surrounding Libertas’s efforts to register itself as a European political party in time for the upcoming European elections has brought confusion and clarity in equal measure to our understanding of the organisation as a political entity.

The confusion has resulted from the denial of two of the supposed signatories to their application for EU funds to help finance their campaign. First, Igor Grazin, an Estonian MP denied that he had ever given his signature to any such application shortly followed by Bulgarian MP Mincho Kuminev who also strenuously denies ever signing any documents in relation to Libertas.

Libertas fired back claiming that those individuals were intimidated into rescinding their support by the European Commission. On their website they have posted photo evidence of the signatures in question on the pertinent documents.

The rules concerning the establishment of pan-European political parties stipulate that at least seven signatures from national or European politicians must be obtained in order to access campaign funds. Consequently the €200,000 granted to Libertas will not actually be made available to them until a full investigation has been carried out.

The Libertas chairman Declan Ganley has lashed out at Brussels, accusing the commission and parliament of orchestrating a dirty tricks campaign, indicative of the un-democratic practises that he and his party want to rid Europe of.

Out of this suspicion and uncertainty however some clarity is beginning to emerge as to exactly what kind of values Libertas espouse, apart from their monolithic opposition to the Lisbon Treaty. By looking at the ideologies subscribed to by those who whose signatures remain on the ill-fated application documents we can surmise Libertas’s own ideological outlook.

The conditions must be subject to you. They must respect your identity and culture.”

One of the signatories of the Libertas application is Cyprian Gutowski, regional assembly member for the All-Polish Youth party. Was it respectful of the identity and culture of all Europeans when members of that party were filmed at in the company of neo-Nazi skin heads, listening to Nazi songs and saluting the swastika?

How indeed does Chairman Ganley propose to harmonise the opposition of the All-Polish Youth party to liberalism, tolerance and relativism, as stated in their founding manifesto, with Libertas’ own profession to “stand for tolerance and for the belief that every citizen has rights and limitless potential.”

How does their stated respect for an individual’s rights of culture and identity chime with the values held by the True Finns party, with whom Libertas are in talks about forming a parliamentary alliance? The Finnish State prosecutor is considering whether to press hate crimes charges against one of that party’s councillors, resulting from his daily anti-immigration blog.

Another supporter is Georgios Georgiou, a member of a Greek nationalist party called Laikos Orthodoxos Synagermos which released a statement when the mayor of the island of Tilos presided over a homosexual civil marriage deploring “the cruel reality that we are living in the society of faggots.”

But we need not look as far as Libertas’s colourful friends overseas to uncover apparent double standards between what the party says and what the party does. Libertas consistently calls for “a new, democratic, accountable and open European Union” whilst failing to account for its own sources of funding and finance to the satisfaction of the Oireachtas or the European Commission, a full eight months after the Lisbon referendum was held.

Until all of this is resolved, and Libertas reveal their actual candidates and policies the information that can be gleaned from the murky waters surrounding the organisation point to a series of contradictions; a purportedly centrist party that gladly enlists the support of anti-semites and homophobes, a supposedly Europhile party that has scoured the halls of Brussels for every Eurosceptic and secessionist to fill its ranks with and finally a party calls for accountability from others whilst refusing to disclose its own sources of funding.

This might all be put down to teething troubles or political naivety. Whatever it is, Ganley and co have a little over four months to prove they are not the far right Eurosceptics that they increasingly appear to be
