Fight the lies that Libertas and Declan Ganley state as facts

Declan Ganley uses every opportunity to say that 80% of Irish law comes from Brussels well it is a lie. Here are some facts about Libertas and Declan ganley's misuse of information and Big Lies.

Fight the Lies

The Irish people deserve an honest debate on this Treaty, we promise that our campaign will base all our arguments on the facts, and will reference all our statements.

We don’t believe in attacking people personally, but we have zero tolerance for anyone who lies to the Irish people in this campaign. When people make false statements, we will respond immediately with the truth

LIE: Unelected Brussels bureaucrats make up to 80% of laws.

THE TRUTH:EU law is democratically agreed by our elected representatives, and represents less than half the laws implemented in Ireland each year

See our Research

  • New research demonstrates definitively that Libertas’ claim that “Unelected Brussels bureaucrats make up to 80% of laws” is completely false.
  • Gen Yes’s team of researchers have analysed all legislation from the last 17 years to show that on average, the real proportion of laws that comes from Brussels is less than half of what Libertas claims. In a year-by-year analysis, not once does the amount of legislation coming from Brussels rise even as far as 50%. Furthermore, not one single EU law can be passed without approval from our elected MEPs or our elected politicians in the European Council.
  • We analysed the texts of Irish Acts and Statutory Instruments between 1992 and 2009, that period covers 588 Acts and 10,725 Statutory Instruments.
  • We analysed the texts of these 11,313 pieces of legislation for any mention whatsoever of European legislation (Directives, Regulations, Council Decisions). If there is a single mention, we have counted that Act or Statutory Instrument as “European” which if anything will overstate the proportion of legislation that is “European”.
  • Analysis of Laws
  • Results:
  • Of the 588 Acts, 114 contain at least one reference to European legislation (19.39%). Of the 10,725 Statutory Instruments, 3,050 contain at least one reference to European legislation (28.44%). Of the total of Irish legislation from 1992 to 2009, then, only 3,164 out of 11,313 Acts and Instruments contain any reference whatsoever to European legislation - 27.97%.
  • This is the maximum possible amount of Irish legislation that could possibly be related to “Brussels legislation”. Further analysis would reduce this total, because some Acts/SIs will not in fact be implementing EU legislation, but only making some reference to it, or only part of the legislation text is implementing EU legislation, while the majority of the Act/SI implements purely national legislation.
  • Looked at year by year, it can be seen that in no year does the amount of Irish legislation in any sense ‘containing traces of EU’ rise as far as 50%.
  • One final point is that the claim may refer to EU regulation which is
directly applicable without requiring an Act/SI. Even if we include
these regulations (3,009), the amount of legislation in any way
“European” only reaches 43%. Nearly half what Libertas claims.
  • Methodology:
  • The advantage to our methodology is that - first and foremost - anyone can repeat the exercise themselves. The Acts and Statutory Instruments for the period are all available online.

LIE: EU laws are made by unelected elites.

THE TRUTH: Every EU law has to be approved by either the people’s directly elected MEPs, or by the elected government representatives of the member states. That means no law can be passed without approval by your elected representatives. The Treaty increases the Parliament’s power further.

LIE: The EU wants to introduce conscription in Ireland.

THE TRUTH: There is no EU army, and there is no move toward conscription. Very few countries have conscription in their national armies, and many of them are phasing it out.Furthermore, close to one fifth of EU countries are neutral states, like Ireland.

Ganley "Watford is still my home" 2008 "Watford WAS my Home" 2009 What a difference a year of lying makes

For Declan ganley Ganley in 2008 Watford was still his home. How come he argued so much about his nationality over the past yer then? Read

'Watford's still my home' from the Watford Observer

Ganley was back in Watford this week with friends and family but now he says that it was his home. the change of tense from Is to was in only one year is quite a turnaround.

So what has changed for Ganley in the last year? Well Ganley claimed to be Irish and argued with Irish Minister Dick Roche over his filling in company returns where Ganley stated he was British rather than Irish.

However his claim that he had done this by ticking a box mistakenly has been comprehensively disproved and therefore Mr Ganley was caught lying.

Libertas spreads lies about this blogger

Libertas have been spreading lies about this blogger on Libertas founder David Cochrane's Politics.ie. One Libertas employee who uses the nom de plume Cookiemonster generally posts Libertas spin. You can see his lies about the "offer" Anita Kelly of Libertas made to People Korps about doing an interview with Declan Ganley here

I sent some of the emails that I received and sent to OMahonyMunster who posts on Politics.ie and have put his/her post below. The red dots indicate that the site owner has flaged Omahonymunster as a type of rebel or something. When this blogger posted on politics.ie before being banned , I also had a red dot after my name.

Dear Anita, John and David, , After seeing Declan on Hardtalk
I have decided that it is in the public interest to publish a story
about Peter Caserta and his connections business and personal
with |Mr. Ganley. For many people who have been wondering

about the vague nature of Ganley's claims about his past and business success it is essential that this storiy is put in the public domain.

Does Declan have any comment on Mr. Castera? on Mr. Paterek

or on Mr. Salvitore de Marino?

I would aslo like to know if Salvatore De Marino is the
relative of Don De Marino of the same name?
Was General Thomas Stafford, the Nasa/ Air force official
Declan claims met him at Newark airport in the early 1990s?

Please ask Mr. Ganley if he can answer these questions and if
he has a statement to go with the story.
You will note that I requested an interview with Declan sometime
ago which was "being considered" I feel that as several weeks have
passed without receiving replies to several emails that mu offer
has been declined. Please contact Mr. Ganley with my queries as
a matter of urgency
as I intend to publish my story by noon today.

Declan Ganley has agreed to a talk with you, face to face.
Agree?
Can you send me a contact number to arrange a time? I'll be out of the
office for a while and will have patchy internet service.

Dear Anita, I am holding publication while I consider your
offer, I feel that some parameters would be important to
agree in advance, such as length of interview and range of topics
that would be discussed. I have no interest in doing an interview where Declan Ganley merely covers the same ground that he has covered ad nauseam in the main stream media which I feel have not answered the questions raised by my blog in any way.

As Declan Ganley uses the media to deliver accusatory
soundbites without detailed elaboration I would expect the
opportunity to seek the detailed answers raised by his claims and assertions.

In the meantime , is there any clarification forthcoming on
the three people I have mentioned? Is Declan Ganley willing
to discuss my concerns fully and frankly and at the length
it may take to cover the ground I wish to cover?

Is video permissible?

Best Wishes

pK

PK,
I sent it to you in error, for which I apologise. I have a policy of
not doing interviews - I'm back room staff, as I'm sure you
understand. I occasionally speak on behalf of the organisation,
but so does Anita, and you were dealing with her.
Hope you're well,
John.

After several months refusing to do an interview with an anonymous
bloggerDeclan Ganley agrees to interview on receipt of questions about
his wife's uncle, brother and their business partner Salvitore de marino
and a question re a US Airforce general said relatives of wife and pal
hired to make a company look better.

Blogger responds by NOT doing as he was told ie to give his location and
phone number (yeah right) but instead before he will go to the next level
seeks guarantees about the nature of the interview and whether he can
video tape. Anita Kelly fails to respond and obviously failed to appraise
John McGuirk that a response had been received. McGuirk emails "Any
responses" and bccs the blogger , The blogger forwards response to
second Libertas press officer.
libertas worker posts lying blog about affair and insist blogger a chicken.

Cookie are you for real,
People Korps emailed earlier and is still waiting for a response re the
interview plus ganley used the same line next day to interns in Brussels
saying that the blogger was "afraid" and that he was going to sue the
blogger "people korps".................interns report same to blogger and on
and on

people Korps is still waiting for a response.........plus I am further
informed that a recent request to Anita Kelly for comment re Naoise
Nunn was answered and cced to peoplekorps Caroline Simons and
John McGuirk "Ignore this eejit"

Tut tut cookie i see your version is Quote: "Anyway, as we can see from the
email exchange (assuming it's not been edited by you) Anita had agreed to allow
an interview between you and Declan Ganley and asked that you
forward your details so it could be arranged." details? the bloggers details?
....oh you silly little things that is not how
bloggers like people korps work, had Anita responded guaranteeing the
nature of the interview then the blogger would possibly have bought a
disposable mobile and given a contact number.........given that Ganley
was boosting to his interns that he was getting a "cease and desist order"
on the blogger the next day it sounds to me like there is more to this than
the lies on your blog cookie

Either you are being lied to by Anita Kelly and Declan Ganley,
you cant read or you are a blatant liar tryin g to spin like Libertas love to spin

Dear Anita , You are well aware that you failed to respond to me not
the other way around re an interview with Declan Ganley. Friday 10 April
I was informed that Declan had told interns in the office in Brussels ie your office that he had already secured a cease and desist order (did he mean injunction?) against me.
As a press representative you should at least try to keep up the pretence of veracity , though I know it is hard given the organisation you work for.
The blog is doing very well and is a great source for people checking out the issues in the elections eg

EU is Ireland's best friend, says student group

Irish Times Saturday, April 25, 2009

EUROPE IS “the best friend Ireland ever had”, according to a new pro-Lisbon campaign group launched in Dublin yesterday.

Calling itself Generation Yes, the organisation of college students and graduates was armed with the slogan “EU – a safe harbour in the financial storm” aimed at encouraging Ireland’s youth to vote Yes in a future referendum on the treaty.

Using new media options like Twitter, Facebook, blogs, text messaging and its own website www.generationyes.ie, the group says it will “outline really clear and understandable” explanations of the treaty and its benefits.

They plan to campaign on the streets, on campuses and to support other pro-treaty groups. Their press release highlights a Millward Brown IMS poll finding that of the 59 per cent of 25- to 34-year-olds who voted No last time, 42 per cent did so due to a “lack of knowledge or understanding”.

They also want the Government to “run the referendum over two days at the weekend” which would suit students better, according to campaign director Andrew Byrne, a former Trinity College students’ union president.

He said the campaign was “all just friends of ours” who were frustrated by the failure of politicians to properly explain the treaty the last time, or to campaign effectively, so they decided “we’ll do it ourselves”.

They recently started a Facebook page “and we have more than 800 members on that. I think Declan Ganley only has about 100,” he says of the Libertas anti-treaty campaigner.

“We’re a grassroots movement. We’re independent,” he insists, although he is a member of the Green Party. Hazel Nolan a UCC student and a member of the Labour Party, was involved with the Alliance for Europe in last year’s campaign.

“I think young people are taking it more seriously this time,” she says. Both insist they have no personal political ambition.

“I’m emigrating next year to America” says Mr Byrne, who will study in Chicago.

He stresses that Lisbon “is too important to leave it to the politicians” and he insists “we’re not funded by anybody”, although they are seeking funds through their website and “we’ll run table quizzes after the launch”. This campaign “is as genuine as it comes”, he says, estimating it will cost “a few thousand euro”.

About 20 young people attended the launch on Merrion Square, the boys wearing white T-shirts with the slogan “Yes, Yes, Yes”. Some of the girls wore pink T-shirts with the legend: “I only kiss boys who say Yes”, while other campaign members refused to wear the “chauvinistic” shirts. The T-shirt legend is meant to be humorous and to show “we’re not taking ourselves too seriously,” says the campaign director, but he concedes it may change.

Alan Kennedy of Libertas fails to declare his interests while lobbying for Libertas

Alan Kennedy of Libertas fails to declare his interests while lobbying for Libertas
Libertas letter writing campaign in full swing. As well as writing on politics.ie, baby faced Libertas intern Alan Kennedy has also begun to write letters to Irish newspapers.

He asks in yesterday's Irish Independent "Finally, who better to know about the machinations of lobbyist in Brussels than Raymond O'Malley? Very few people know anything about how these people operate in Brussels."

Well as Raymond O'Malley was a lobbyist to the EU for the IFA he sure would know Alan!! O'Malley apparently bitter at failing to win the leadership of the Irish Farmers Association and with his bio-fuel firm facing bankruptcy, has turned to Ganley to save him and is running in Leinster for Europe. Does he see an MEP's salary and Ganley campaign funding as his parachute in the economic downturn?

Meanwhiloe back at Libertas Little Alan Kennedy says tio the paper
"Libertas has called for all lobbyists to be registered. Who else has done that? "

Well Alan perhaps you should register your own interests next time you write to the papers.

Since 25 Feb 2009 Alan has been posting Libertas propaganda on Twitter http://twitter.com/alkennedy

I wish that Libertas interns, employees and activists would state their political lobbying interests before spamming the letters pages of Irish newspapers.
Alan says that the farmers of the North West support Libertas. the truth of that statement will become evident on June 5 but in the meantime Alan, true transparency and not the Libertas lying that you are engaging in would be achieved by you declaring that you work for the party the next time you write to the papers.

Ganley lies on BBC

Declan Ganley from the far right Libertas and Richard Corbett UK Labour talk on BBC The Record.

Ganley says he has nothing to do eurosceptics despite recruiting French , Czech, Swedish , Polish eurosceptics and UKIP defectors. Why does he think that this continuous lying will get him votes?

He is so afriad of hearing an answer that he continually interrupts Corbett.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7982112.stm

This is a very important video as Ganley rarely lets himself be filmed talking to his political foes. Bully boy Ganley does his best to stop Corbett from speaking and thus avoids debate.
