Ganley recently did a secret deal with a Polish bishop in an attempt to get the support of Radio Maryja. Do we really want religion in politics? Should priests have the influence they had when Ireland was a sea of clerical sex abuse? i don't think so. faith is a private matter and should be kept out of political decisions.

As the Fenian Charles Kickham urged in the Irish People newspaper in 1864 in an article "Priests In Politics", priests should stay away from politics and stick to ministering for the spiritual well being of their flocks. They have no place at the centre of a republic's political life. Vote no to Ganley and his secret deals with the far right religious.

A right-wing Polish radio station founded by an ultra-conservative Polish Catholic priest is in line to get European Union funding.

Radio Maryja, which has been accused of being anti-Semitic and anti-EU, may receive more than €15 million in EU funding for a private university, Poland's Minister of Regional Development Grazyna Gesicka said Tuesday. The project has fulfilled all the necessary criteria and will get the EU grant, Gesicka said.

Her statement confirmed an earlier report in the Tuesday edition of the Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza that the school was on a list of 350 projects that Warsaw has recommended to receive EU funding. The money will go to expand Radio Maryja's journalism school, the Torun-based Higher School of Social and Media Culture.

However the European Commission disputed that the funds had been approved. Commission spokeswoman Katharina von Schnurbein told the news agency AFP that the EU's strict ban on discrimination must be adhered to if Radio Maryja was going to get EU money. "We have clear criteria and values," she said. According to sources in the EU quoted by AFP, Radio Maryja's radical stance would reduce its chances of getting funding.

A spokeswoman for the European Commission told the news Web site EU Observer that the commission could use anti-discrimination rules "to stop the project if necessary."

Radio Maryja was founded by the controversial Catholic priest Tadeusz Rydzyk, who was caught on tape earlier this year making anti-Semitic remarks which were then published in the Polish weekly Wprost. According to the magazine, Rydzyk accused Polish President Lech Kaczynski of being "in the pockets of the Jewish lobbies," and said that if you give them aid, "they will come to you and say 'give me your coat. Take off your pants. Give me your shoes.'" He also referred to Kaczynski's wife as a "witch" for her support of abortion rights.

Rydzyk's recent meeting with Pope Benedict XVI was condemned by international Jewish groups. He has close links to the Kaczynski twins, who are prime minister and president of Poland, and the support of Radio Maryja is thought to have been instrumental in getting the Kaczynskis' Law and Justice party elected in 2005.

• New research demonstrates definitively that Libertas’ claim that “Unelected Brussels bureaucrats make up to 80% of laws” is completely false.
• Gen Yes’s team of researchers have analysed all legislation from the last 17 years to show that on average, the real proportion of laws that comes from Brussels is less than half of what Libertas claims. In a year-by-year analysis, not once does the amount of legislation coming from Brussels rise even as far as 50%. Furthermore, not one single EU law can be passed without approval from our elected MEPs or our elected politicians in the European Council.
• We analysed the texts of Irish Acts and Statutory Instruments between 1992 and 2009, that period covers 588 Acts and 10,725 Statutory Instruments.
• We analysed the texts of these 11,313 pieces of legislation for any mention whatsoever of European legislation (Directives, Regulations, Council Decisions). If there is a single mention, we have counted that Act or Statutory Instrument as “European” which if anything will overstate the proportion of legislation that is “European”.

• Results:
• Of the 588 Acts, 114 contain at least one reference to European legislation (19.39%). Of the 10,725 Statutory Instruments, 3,050 contain at least one reference to European legislation (28.44%). Of the total of Irish legislation from 1992 to 2009, then, only 3,164 out of 11,313 Acts and Instruments contain any reference whatsoever to European legislation - 27.97%.
• This is the maximum possible amount of Irish legislation that could possibly be related to “Brussels legislation”. Further analysis would reduce this total, because some Acts/SIs will not in fact be implementing EU legislation, but only making some reference to it, or only part of the legislation text is implementing EU legislation, while the majority of the Act/SI implements purely national legislation.
• Looked at year by year, it can be seen that in no year does the amount of Irish legislation in any sense ‘containing traces of EU’ rise as far as 50%.
• One final point is that the claim may refer to EU regulation which is
  directly applicable without requiring an Act/SI. Even if we include
  these regulations (3,009), the amount of legislation in any way
  “European” only reaches 43%. Nearly half what Libertas claims.
• Methodology:
• The advantage to our methodology is that - first and foremost - anyone can repeat the exercise themselves. The Acts and Statutory Instruments for the period are all available online.

LIE: EU laws are made by unelected elites.

THE TRUTH: Every EU law has to be approved by either the people’s directly elected MEPs, or by the elected government representatives of the member states. That means no law can be passed without approval by your elected representatives. The Treaty increases the Parliament’s power further.

LIE: The EU wants to introduce conscription in Ireland.

THE TRUTH: There is no EU army, and there is no move toward conscription. Very few countries have conscription in their national armies, and many of them are phasing it out.Furthermore, close to one fifth of EU countries are neutral states, like Ireland.

Bruce Arnold accused of "act of publishing fellatio" over Ganley book

The new issue of Ireland's Phoenix magazine likens Bruce Arnold's collaboration on a book on and with Declan Ganley to a humiliating "act of publishing fellatio". ("Declan Ganley's Boswell", The Phoenix, May 8 2009). Ganley has printed at least 25,000 for free distribution in Ireland and it is reported that 75,000 more are being produced for in translation for foreign distribution. However this bloggger has been informed that 100,000 were ordered for Irish distribution alone.

In a week when Declan Ganley has dropped his lawsuit against the Village magazine which covered much the same ground as RTEs Primetime show, Declan Ganley has tried to silence TV coverage of his dodgy past by issuing proceedings against RTE the Irish National broadcaster. It is clear that he fears part two hitting the air before June 5 elections. It is also a cynical electioneering ploy as he can now say that he is suing. He waited long enough. This is yet another scam by Ganley who constantly issues spurious writs that he later backs out of in order to silence or cow opponents and journalist.

RTE obviously feel his action is politically motivated and fear not his bullying as they still host the program on their site.

The Sunday Times has got one part of their story wrong The Village did a deal with Ganley but Ganley never fulfilled his part and STILL backed out of the action despite editor Michael Smith asserting that Ganley had not fulfilled his pact in an article called Declan Ganley Liar in the following issue gives several more examples of Ganley lying. After the publication of this article Ganley chickened out and dropped his law action .

Irish voters will no doubt use their democratic mandate and show Ganley that they value freedom of the press more than a litigious bullying millionaire with dubious funding and a dodgy past.

Prime Time is sued by Ganley

The Libertas leader and European election candidate has lodged a defamation case against RTE in the High Court

DECLAN GANLEY, an independent candidate in the European elections, has lodged a defamation case against RTE.

The Libertas leader, who is running in the North West constituency, is suing over an edition of the Prime Time Investigates show which examined his past.

The Galway-based businessman, who was interviewed on the programme, had threatened legal action soon after the show was broadcast last November. Proceedings were only issued last Tuesday in the High Court.

John McGuirk, a spokesman for Libertas, said the delay in filing papers was to “allow the lawyers to review the programme”. He claimed: “There were factual inaccuracies and things were said that were false.”

He said the case had nothing to do with the balance of the programme, which was the subject of a complaint to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission. The authority ruled in favour of RTE and said there was no evidence of editorial bias.

RTE News and Current Affairs said: “Prime Time fully stands over everything that was broadcast. We won’t comment further because it is a legal matter.”

The programme, which is still available on the RTE website, tracked Ganley’s business dealings in Latvia, Albania and America.

Opponents of Libertas have accused Ganley of making “phoney” legal threats to silence his critics. He has publicly threatened a number of politicians with legal actions after they made allegations that he is funded by the American military complex.

Last February he sued Ormand Quay Publishing, publishers of Village magazine, over an article entitled The Beginning of the End for Declan Ganley. As part of a settlement, Village agreed it should have interviewed Ganley before making serious allegations against him.

Ganley's personal spokesperson John McGuirk says

However the story is confirmed by several sources within Libertas Poland including one of its Vice Presidents Artur Zawisza who said "The most important thing for banks is to assess the creditworthiness and the collateral. I know they consulted with Mr. Declan Ganleyem" - when asked about the source of funding election campaigns.

Libertas denies Ganley is funding Polish campaign

LIBERTAS HAS denied reports that founder Declan Ganley will in effect personally bankroll the European election campaign of its newly founded Polish branch by guaranteeing bank loans for the party.

The Polish daily Dziennik at the weekend reported assertions from a Libertas Polska party source that the party hoped to raise a loan of €250,000 on the basis of guarantees from Mr Ganley.

Such a loan guarantee, although legal, would effectively circumvent Polish legislation that bans foreign funding of Polish domestic politics, and the suggestion has prompted a heated reaction in the country.

Libertas spokesman John McGuirk insisted yesterday, however, that Mr Ganley was not giving such guarantees. “ was asked a hypothetical question and he gave an answer he shouldn’t have,” said Mr McGuirk. “He answered it in a stupid manner, to be honest.”

Dziennik stood by its story yesterday, citing confirmation of the plan from several sources within the party.

Libertas insists it is financing its campaign to field candidates EU-wide in the June European elections through donations and fundraising.

History has left Poles acutely sensitive to foreign influence on domestic politics and the Libertas report has prompted concern that it could set a dangerous precedent in Polish politics.

“Today it’s Irish money, tomorrow will it be Russian money?” asked Dziennik opinion editor Michal Karnowksi.

“It’s a trick to get the money they cannot accept directly from abroad. It was obvious that Libertas Polska had no money of their own and that Ganley was going to give money, the question until now was just how he was going to do it.”

The Polish election commission, which can examine party financing only in the aftermath of an election, has, however, said campaign loans guaranteed by non-Polish citizens are legitimate. Leading figures in Poland’s ruling Civic Platform (PO) party called it “unsettling” for a party to “get money for elections from a person prohibited by law to do so”.

“This means to circumvent the existing rules,” said Zbigniew Chlebowski, PO parliamentary leader.

Dziennik claims that Libertas Polska will have access to €250,000, as will the Libertas party in Slovakia.

Libertas in Latvia, the newspaper claimed, would have funding of €100,000.

Mr Ganley says Libertas drew down €200,000 during last year’s Lisbon campaign in Ireland from a credit facility he put in place. Today is the deadline for Libertas to submit bank account statements for donations and a document certifying all donations received to the Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO).

Declan Ganley will finance the anti-Lisbon campaign in Poland. His allies, who have no money, claim he will guarantee their loan and repay if himself after the election.

As "Gazeta Wyborcza" reports, the Libertas crowd in Poland have found a legal loophole to get financing from abroad. Daniel Pawłowiec, one of the Polish Libertas activists told "Gazeta" Mr. Ganley will guarantee a loan they will take. Another anonymous activist told "Dziennik" daily that the loan would be repaid by Mr. Ganley after the election.

Declan Ganley 'puppet of US military' - MEP Jim Higgins asserts

Jim Higgins the Fine Gael MEP in whose constituency Declan Ganley is running for the far right Libertas party has steped up the war of words accusing Ganley of being a puppet of the US miltary.

Ganley has previously threatened to sue Higgins but as usual failed to proceed with the action. This threatened action was over for over previous statements by Higgins.

THE FINE Gael MEP Jim Higgins has accused Libertas founder Declan Ganley of being a “puppet of the US military”.

Mr Higgins, who was yesterday selected by his party to defend his European Parliament seat in the North-West constituency, also alleged that Mr Ganley had made “malicious claims” against him in relation to a €9.2 million swimming pool for parliamentarians and staff in Brussels.

A week after Mr Ganley used the launch of his campaign in the constituency to mount a political attack on Mr Higgins, the Mayo-based MEP’s speech at the selection convention in Sligo sharply criticised Libertas and its founder.

Mr Higgins said that Mr Ganley has constantly refused to tell the Standards in Public Office Commission about the nature and condition of his personal loan to Libertas and also about the involvement of staff from his company Rivada Networks in the referendum campaign on the Lisbon Treaty last year.

Last week Mr Ganley described Mr Higgins as “Swimmer Jim”. He claimed the MEP had voted for a swimming pool for MEPs and staff that would cost €9.2 million. Yesterday Mr Higgins said he never voted for such a project and neither did any of his colleagues.

Mr Ganley yesterday predicted that even if Libertas performed poorly in this June’s European elections, it would return more MEPs than the combined total of 12 MEPs elected from Ireland.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio’s This Week , he said that the party, which is fielding 100 candidates across 27 EU states, would win seats and that the number could be 35 or 15. He added that it would be very much determined on turnout.

“If we provoke a very high turnout, which is our objective, then Libertas can potentially win a very large number of seats.”

He accepted that his wealth had made possible his campaign against the Lisbon Treaty but said some of the figures being “bandied about” in relation to his personal spending were “ridiculous”.

He said Libertas would soon propose a system whereby donations would be capped at €1,000 per donor, and the source of all political donations would be identified.

Mr Higgins claimed Mr Ganley had refused to disclose information about last year’s campaign. He said the Libertas founder was a “lord of the manor who lectures from on high in relation to transparency. It begs the question, what is Mr Ganley hiding?”

Mr Higgins also questioned some of the political affiliations Mr Ganley and Libertas have built up in attempts to make Libertas a pan-European party. He also claimed that the businessman was doing the US military’s bidding.

How much did this protest cost Libertas? Who is funding Libertas. Ganley says he is using his own cash so where have they got their cash from. Who is behind this? Who is funding their printing bills?

Their flyer today says that the EU passed more laws than any other single country in the last five years.
Duh.....well it is a collection of 27 countries Ganley. These Libertas people are ignorant of democracy and legislation. They use propaganda like Goebbels and are pushing their own Big Lie. It was defined by Adolf Hitler in his 1925 autobiography Mein Kampf as a lie so "colossal" that no one would believe that someone "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously".

For Libertas the attempt to convince people that in Europe that all their elected politicians are "undemocratic" is one plank of their Big Lie. Another is that they say no institution of government is transparent despite the fact that they are secretive in nature and have no policies at all except negitive lie ridden threthoric. Thye have not revealed how they funded their No campaign in Ireland. they have not divulged who is funding their attcks on our democratic institions.

The people of Europe must resist this threat. Wipe out Libertas candidates in June.
